The injury occurred when Pant attempted a reverse sweep against England's Chris Woakes in the 68th over of India's first innings. The ball struck his right foot, causing him visible pain and prompting immediate medical assistance. Unable to walk, he had to retire hurt after scoring 37 runs off 48 balls.

According to a source close to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), scans confirmed a fracture in Pant's right foot, necessitating a six-week recovery period, which means he will miss the rest of the series.

Team India's Injury Challenges

The injury woes continue for Team India, which is already dealing with multiple setbacks. All-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy has also been ruled out of the series due to a knee injury sustained during a gym session in Beckenham. This marks the second injury for Pant in the ongoing series.
