Rishabh Pant Makes Test Cricket History with 100 Sixes
Rishabh Pant Achieves Milestone
Wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant has etched his name in cricket history by becoming the first Indian to hit 100 sixes in Test matches.
He accomplished this remarkable feat on the fourth day of the first Test against Sri Lanka in Galle, launching a six off the bowling of pacer Lahiru Kumara. This achievement places Pant among an elite group, making him the fourth player globally to reach this milestone.
Additionally, he has set a record as the fastest player to achieve 100 sixes in Test cricket, accomplishing this in just 89 innings across 51 Tests. This surpasses the previous record held by Australia's Adam Gilchrist, who reached the milestone in 130 innings.
Elite Company for Pant
Leading the all-time list is former England captain Ben Stokes, who has hit 138 sixes in 122 Tests. Following him is New Zealand's Brendon McCullum with 107 sixes in 101 Tests, and Adam Gilchrist, who has 100 sixes from 96 Tests.
What sets Pant apart is his scoring rate; he averages a six every 49.2 balls. In contrast, Stokes averages one every 90.05 balls, McCullum every 93.39, and Gilchrist every 67.92.
Among Indian players, Virender Sehwag ranks next with 91 sixes from 104 Tests, followed by Rohit Sharma with 88 sixes in 67 Tests. Former captain MS Dhoni has 78 sixes in 90 Tests, while cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar, the highest run-scorer in Test history, has 69 sixes from 200 matches.
