Samaleswari Temple's Light and Sound Show Returns

In Sambalpur, the renowned light and sound show at the historic Samaleswari Temple has made a comeback after a six-month hiatus, as confirmed by an official on Saturday.

The management of the show will be overseen by the Samaleswari Temple Trust Board, led by its president, Sanjay Baboo.

He noted that the show had been paused since September 2024 due to technical difficulties. Scripts for the performance have been created in both Odia and Hindi, with plans to introduce a Sambalpuri version soon.

The show will last approximately ten minutes, showcasing the temple's history, its rituals, festivals, and the rich culture of Western Odisha.

This light and sound spectacle is anticipated to enhance the experience for visitors and draw more tourists to this sacred site.

Constructed in the 16th century by Balram Dev, the first Chauhan king of Sambalpur, the Samaleswari Temple is a significant attraction for both devotees and tourists from across the state.

The state government has initiated the Samalei (Samaleswari Temple Area Management and Local Economic Initiative) corridor project, which spans 42 acres adjacent to the temple, with an investment of Rs 200 crore. This facility was inaugurated in January of the previous year.

The second phase of construction is expected to be completed by February next year. The first phase includes beautification efforts, riverfront development, the construction of a ghat, four gates, a cafeteria, renovation of a heritage pond, a shopping complex, parking facilities, a bhoga mandapam, a watchtower, and a line system for devotees.
