Murder Investigation in Panchkula

In Panchkula, a domestic helper has been accused of murdering the 72-year-old wife of a retired army captain following a dispute over missing jewelry, according to police reports. Authorities have arrested the domestic worker, along with her husband and son, in connection with the case.

The body of Neera Mehta was discovered on Monday on the roof of a house located in Sector 21 of Panchkula. Police confirmed that all three suspects have been taken into custody. The investigation into the elderly woman's murder was resolved within 24 hours, leading to the apprehension of the accused.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Aditi Singh informed reporters that on Monday, retired Captain Manmohan Lal Mehta filed a complaint at the Sector 21 police station. He reported that his wife, Neera Mehta, suspected the domestic helper of stealing jewelry from their home and had gone to confront her but did not return.

Upon receiving the complaint, police quickly arrived at the domestic worker's residence, which was locked from the outside. They then spotted a woman's body wrapped in a mat on the roof of a neighboring house. The police have registered a case under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including 103(1) for murder, 238(B) for destruction of evidence, 3(5) for criminal acts committed by multiple individuals to further a common purpose, and 305 for theft.

During the swift investigation, the police team from Sector 21 arrested the main suspect, domestic helper Sunita, along with her husband Shankar and son Raja in Panchkula. Initial findings suggest that the argument over the alleged theft escalated into violence, resulting in the elderly woman's death.
