Imphal, Aug 21: The public transport services along the Imphal-Dimapur-Guwahati route have recommenced as of Friday, marking a significant step towards restoring normalcy and enhancing inter-State connectivity after nearly three years.
The State Government reported that the initial services included two buses and five Winger vehicles, accommodating a total of 125 passengers traveling from Imphal to Guwahati via Nagaland.
These vehicles successfully navigated through the Kangpokpi and Senapati districts and were set to continue their journey through Nagaland before entering Assam on their way to Guwahati.
Passengers expressed their joy at the service's revival, hoping that improved connectivity would promote peace and reconciliation within the State.
Kiyam Kumarjit Singh, a traveler from Thoubal district, expressed gratitude towards the State Government for reinstating the service, viewing the journey as a fresh start. He remarked, “Let us all forgive and forget the past. I hope this initiative will bring love, peace, and harmony among all communities.”
The reopening of this route is seen as a crucial development in reconnecting Manipur with its neighboring States and facilitating travel for individuals impacted by the disruptions caused by the ethnic conflict that arose in 2023.
Another passenger, Nivedita from Khundrakpam village in Imphal East district, also shared her optimism regarding the route's restoration. She stated, “I hope this journey contributes to peace in the State. I wish the government success in its efforts to restore normalcy.”
This service resumption follows Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh's announcement on August 8 during a visit to Kangpokpi district, where he declared that National Highways in the State would be reopened for the free movement of all communities.
Accompanied by Deputy Chief Minister Nemcha Kipgen and Saitu MLA Haokholet Kipgen, the Chief Minister also indicated that the Imphal-Dimapur-Guwahati bus service would soon be reinstated.
The revival of this inter-State transport link is anticipated to enhance passenger movement and bolster road connectivity between Manipur, Nagaland, and Assam, as efforts continue to restore peace and normalcy in the conflict-affected region.
