Successful Rescue of Indian Crew Members

Dubai: A total of 22 Indian crew members were successfully rescued from the crude oil tanker MT Gem No. 2, which encountered an accident off the coast of Ras Al Khaimah, as confirmed by the Consulate General of India in Dubai on Sunday.

The Consulate reported that it was informed about the incident involving the MT GEM No. 2, which had all 22 Indian crew members aboard. Fortunately, all crew members have been rescued and are reported safe. The Consulate is actively coordinating with UAE authorities to provide necessary assistance to the Indian seafarers.

On the same day, the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) issued two reports concerning incidents involving tankers.

One report detailed an incident involving a tanker and military forces in the Gulf of Oman, while another highlighted an occurrence within the Strait of Hormuz.

According to the UKMTO, the master of an outbound tanker reported being struck on the port side by an unidentified projectile, which resulted in a fire on board. Fortunately, the crew was reported safe, although the extent of the damage and environmental impact remains unclear.

The Iranian navy's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) stated that a supertanker, which was attempting to exit the Strait of Hormuz via an unauthorized route, experienced a significant explosion after hitting naval mines.

In a statement released by the IRGC's official news outlet, Sepah News, it was reported that the vessel, which was transporting crude oil and had its navigation and GPS systems turned off, caught fire following the explosion.

The IRGC warned that any oil tanker disregarding Iran's regulations and attempting to navigate through high-risk routes would face severe consequences.

Earlier on Friday, the IRGC navy reported that its forces had targeted a large liquefied petroleum gas carrier, NV Sunshine, as it attempted to cross the strait through an illegal route south of the waterway, resulting in a fire in the vessel's engine room and propulsion system.
