Crocodile Rescued Near Bhitarkanika National Park

A six-foot-long female crocodile was successfully rescued from a pond in a village near Bhitarkanika National Park in Kendrapara district, Odisha, on Sunday, as reported by an official.


The crocodile had been wandering in the village of Endalapur for over two weeks. Concerned locals alerted forest officials, who then took action to safely retrieve the reptile from the pond.


Chittaranjan Beura, the forest range officer of the national park, stated, “After two hours of intense effort, our team managed to capture the crocodile using nets and ropes. It was later released back into the forest. Fortunately, the reptile did not harm any humans or domestic animals.”


Bhitarkanika National Park is home to approximately 1,826 saltwater crocodiles.
