Rescue Operation in Arunachal Pradesh Saves 24 Child Labourers
Successful Rescue of Trafficked Children
Agartala/Itanagar, Dec 25: In response to a plea from the Tripura Police, authorities in Arunachal Pradesh successfully rescued 24 child labourers along with several adult workers who were reportedly trafficked for unauthorized employment, as confirmed by officials.
A senior official from the Tripura Police stated that they received notification from their Arunachal Pradesh counterparts late Wednesday regarding the successful rescue operation involving all 24 children and the adults.
An official delegation from the Tripura government is set to travel to Itanagar on Thursday to bring the rescued minors back home.
Initially, family members reported that approximately 30 child labourers and some adults had been taken to Arunachal Pradesh. However, further investigations revealed that 24 children had been forcibly taken for illegal work.
Tapas Malakar, Officer-in-Charge of the Kailashahar Police Station in Tripura’s Unakoti district, mentioned that the Tripura Police reached out to their Arunachal Pradesh colleagues after a missing persons report was filed, requesting help in locating the children.
Following the Tripura government's request, the Arunachal Pradesh Police initiated a thorough search operation, which ultimately led to the successful rescue of the children and adults, Malakar informed the media.
Families of the affected children had filed a First Information Report (FIR) at the Kailashahar Police Station on Tuesday, alleging that the children were subjected to mistreatment and forced to endure inhumane living conditions, causing significant mental distress.
Malakar emphasized the humanitarian aspect of the situation, stating, “The families are in deep anguish and are desperately seeking the safe and early return of their near and dear ones.”
The parents of the missing children work in tea gardens located in Northern Tripura’s Unakoti district.
In a related development, Tinku Roy, the Tripura Minister for Labour, Social Welfare, and Social Education, has reached out to Nyato Dukam, the Minister for Commerce and Industries, Labour and Employment in Arunachal Pradesh, requesting his assistance in ensuring the safe return of the children.
