Mumbai: Dr. Vijaypat Singhania, the former Managing Director of the Raymond Group and a recipient of the Padma Bhushan, passed away at the age of 87, as confirmed by his son, Gautam Singhania, in a post on X this Saturday.
In his heartfelt message, Gautam expressed, "With profound grief and deep sorrow, we inform the passing of Padma Bhushan Dr. Vijaypat Kailashpat Singhania."
He characterized his father as a "visionary leader, philanthropist, and an inspiring personality, whose legacy will continue to guide and inspire generations."
The funeral service is scheduled for Sunday at Chandanwadi crematorium in Mumbai. Family and friends are invited to gather at 1:30 PM at Haveli, L. D. Ruparel Marg, as mentioned in the post.
Dr. Singhania will be remembered as a prominent Indian industrialist who significantly contributed to the establishment of the Raymond Group as a respected institution.
Years ago, Vijaypat and Gautam Singhania were involved in legal disputes, which have since been resolved.
Born in 1938, Gautam Singhania is an accomplished entrepreneur and aviator who led the Raymond Group as Chairman from 1980 until 2015, overseeing its growth and evolution.
Dr. Singhania served as chairman of Raymond for two decades until 2000. Upon his retirement, he passed the leadership to Gautam and transferred his entire 37% stake in the company to him.
His contributions to industry and society earned him an honorary PhD from the London Institute of Technology & Research, and he was awarded the Padma Bhushan by the Government of India in 2006.
Additionally, he was appointed as an Honorary Air Commodore by the Indian Air Force in 1994 and served as Sheriff of Mumbai in 2006.
