Rekha to be Honored at Melbourne Indian Film Festival

Actress Rekha is set to be honored at the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne, where she will receive the Excellence in Cinema Award. The festival will showcase her iconic film 'Umrao Jaan' to celebrate her significant contributions to Indian cinema. Rekha, who has left an indelible mark with films like 'Silsila' and 'Khoon Bhari Maang', expressed her emotional connection to 'Umrao Jaan' as it celebrates its 45th anniversary. The festival runs from August 13 to 23, culminating in a flag hoisting ceremony on August 15 with the Indian community in Melbourne.
 

Rekha's Special Appearance at IFFM

New Delhi, July 28 - Renowned actress Rekha will grace the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne (IFFM) as a distinguished guest, where she will receive the Excellence in Cinema Award. To celebrate her remarkable journey in film and her significant contributions to Indian cinema, the festival will showcase the film 'Umrao Jaan.'


Directed by Muzaffar Ali, 'Umrao Jaan' is considered one of the pivotal films in Rekha's career, marking its 45th anniversary this year. In a statement, Rekha expressed, 'Umrao Jaan has never been far from me.'


She added, 'It resides in my memories, my silences, and in the hearts of those who have cherished it over the years. Reflecting on that journey and witnessing this film being honored on a global platform is an incredibly emotional experience for me.'


On August 15, Rekha will also hoist the Indian flag in Melbourne alongside members of the Indian community, dignitaries from Australia, filmmakers, artists, and cinema enthusiasts. The Indian Film Festival of Melbourne (IFFM) is scheduled to take place from August 13 to 23.
