Indian athletes have made headlines at the Asian Games 2026 with record-breaking performances across various sports. Dhiraj Bommadevara set an Asian and national record in archery, while Sawan Barwal achieved a national record in the men's marathon. The shooting team also secured a silver medal in the women's 50m rifle event. Despite some early exits in table tennis and badminton, India's overall medal tally stands at 25, including two golds. Archery: Record-Breaking Qualification Rounds

Dhiraj Bommadevara, an Indian archer, delivered an outstanding performance in the men's recurve qualification at the Asian Games 2026, achieving a remarkable score of 698, which set both an Asian and national record. This impressive score secured him the top seed for the individual event and positioned India in third place for the men's team qualification.


Neeraj Chauhan finished in 20th place with a score of 676, while Yashdeep Bhoge ranked 25th with 665 points. India's total score of 2039 earned them third place in the team qualification. The results from these qualifications will influence the knockout draws, with India entering the men's team event as the third seeds. It's important to note that no medals are awarded based solely on qualification scores; the team competition will be determined in the knockout rounds. Dhiraj's exceptional performance has given him a strong advantage in the individual competition, where he will compete as the top seed.


Women's Compound Qualification Success

In the women's compound qualification, Chikitha Taniparthi excelled, finishing first in the individual standings with a score of 705 out of 720. Jyothi Surekha Vennam placed 13th with 699 points, while Prithika Pradeep secured 20th with 695 points. The women's compound team achieved a combined score of 2099, placing them second in the qualification rounds. These rounds will set the brackets for the knockout stages, with both individual and team competitions continuing.


Shooting: Silver Medal Achievement

On Day 7, India clinched a silver medal in shooting, with Ashi Chouksey, Tilottama Sen, and Vidarsa Vinod finishing second in the women's 50m rifle 3 positions team event. Tilottama qualified for the individual final, finishing third in qualification with a score of 590, while Vidarsa placed 65th with 588 points.


Athletics: National Record and Strong Decathlon Performance

In athletics, Sawan Barwal earned a silver medal in the men's marathon, setting a national record with a time of 2:11:37. Tejaswin Shankar showcased his talent in the men's decathlon, winning the 100m event with 865 points and the long jump with a distance of 7.53m. After the 100m, he stood second overall with 1807 points and moved to third with 2484 points following the shot put.


Thowfeeq Noushad finished seventh in the 100m with 856 points and third in the long jump with a leap of 7.37m, placing him ninth overall after the shot put. Animesh Kujur also advanced to the men's 200m semi-finals after winning his heat.


Updates from Fencing and Canoe Sprint

In fencing, India progressed to the men's sabre team quarter-finals after defeating the Philippines 45-27 but faced a setback against defending champions South Korea, losing 25-45 in the quarter-finals. The women's foil team also reached the quarter-finals but lost 14-41 to Japan.


In canoe sprint, Harshwardhan Shaktawat advanced to Final B of the men's kayak single 500m after finishing fifth in his semifinal. Meanwhile, Parvathy Geetha and Prasanna Kumar qualified for Final A of the mixed kayak double 500m by finishing second in their semifinal.


Early Exits in Table Tennis and Badminton

India's table tennis journey came to an end for Yashaswini Ghorpade, who exited in the women's singles third round after a 1-4 defeat to Japan's world No. 3 Miwa Harimoto. In badminton, Lakshya Sen also faced elimination in the men's singles, losing to Singapore's Loh Kean Yew with scores of 12-21, 21-15, and 14-21.
