Significant Earthquake Hits Japan

On Friday evening, Japan experienced a notable earthquake measuring 5.6 in magnitude. The Japan Meteorological Agency confirmed that there is no tsunami threat following the quake. Authorities are currently evaluating the earthquake's effects and keeping a close watch on the situation. This seismic event occurred in Yamanashi Prefecture, located west of Tokyo, and registered an intensity of lower 6 on Japan's seismic scale, particularly in the most affected regions.

Philippines Earthquake Update

This incident follows a powerful 6.4 magnitude earthquake that struck the southern Philippine island of Mindanao. The quake was recorded at a depth of 29 kilometers (18 miles), as reported by the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ). Residents across Mindanao felt the tremor, but there have been no immediate reports of injuries or major damage. Philippine officials are currently assessing the situation and monitoring for potential aftershocks, with no tsunami warning issued.

Venezuela's Earthquake Crisis

Earlier this week, Venezuela faced a series of devastating earthquakes measuring 7.2 and 7.5 in magnitude. Venezuelan leader Delcy Rodriguez announced on Friday that the death toll has tragically risen to 589, with nearly 2,980 individuals injured. In response to the disaster, Rodriguez declared the militarization of the hardest-hit areas, particularly in La Guaira state, stating, "We have made the decision to militarize the state to address this situation affecting our people." The number of casualties is anticipated to increase as rescue operations continue, with many individuals reported missing.

In a show of solidarity, India has initiated 'Operation Amistad' to assist Venezuela following the earthquakes. Two C-17 aircraft from the Indian Air Force departed on Friday, carrying a field hospital unit along with over 35 tonnes of essential relief supplies, as confirmed by External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar.
