Real Estate Businessman Arrested for Firing Shots After Badminton Loss in Kurnool
Incident Overview
In Kurnool, Andhra Pradesh, a real estate businessman has been taken into custody for allegedly firing three shots from his licensed revolver. This incident occurred after his badminton team faced defeat in the semifinals of a tournament. The businessman reportedly discharged the firearm towards the ground outside a badminton academy, as confirmed by local police on Monday.
Details of the Shooting
The shooting incident took place on Sunday evening outside the badminton academy, which has been hosting the Kurnool Badminton Premier League (KBPL) for the past month. Fortunately, no injuries were reported as a result of the gunfire. Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Raghavendra informed reporters late Sunday that the individual, identified as Kaushik, possesses a valid license for a .32 caliber revolver.
Police Actions and Recommendations
DSP Raghavendra stated that Kaushik fired the shots in frustration over his team's loss earlier that morning. Thankfully, no one was harmed during the incident. The police have detained Kaushik and are in the process of confiscating the weapon. Additionally, they have initiated a recommendation to the District Collector, A. Siri, through Superintendent of Police Vikrant Patel, to revoke the businessman's firearm license.
Background and Investigation
According to Raghavendra, the firearm license was issued several years ago for self-defense and remains valid. Kaushik is involved in the real estate sector. The DSP noted that there was no argument or altercation prior to the shooting, suggesting that the incident stemmed solely from the disappointment of losing in the semifinals. The police are committed to thoroughly investigating all aspects of the case, and it has been clarified that Kaushik was not the captain of the team but a member of the Ananya franchise participating in the tournament.
