RCB Triumphs Over LSG with Kohli's Stellar Performance in IPL Clash
RCB Secures Victory with Kohli's Masterclass
In a thrilling encounter on Wednesday, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) clinched a decisive five-wicket victory against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in the Indian Premier League (IPL), thanks to Virat Kohli's impressive innings, alongside valuable contributions from Rajat Patidar and Jitesh Sharma. This win propelled RCB to the top of the points table.
Despite a brief resurgence from LSG, the performance of Digvesh Rathi, who conceded 51 runs in his four overs, proved detrimental, ultimately swinging the match in favor of RCB.
RCB's Chase Unfolds
RCB began their chase of 147 runs with Phil Salt and Kohli at the crease. Lucknow Super Giants made an early breakthrough when Prince Yadav dismissed Salt for just 7 runs in the second over, bringing Devdutt Padikkal to bat.
Kohli, playing as an Impact Player, quickly took charge, targeting veteran bowler Mohammed Shami in the third over with three boundaries, and followed it up with a 17-run over against Yadav.
By the end of the powerplay, RCB had established a solid position at 60/1.
Middle Order Seals the Match
Avesh Khan ended the partnership by dismissing Padikkal for 10 runs in the eighth over, allowing RCB captain Rajat Patidar to join Kohli. Patidar wasted no time, hitting Shami for two massive sixes, pushing RCB to 86-2 after 10 overs.
Khan then claimed Kohli's wicket for 49 runs, marking the first time Kohli was out for this score in IPL history.
Jitesh Sharma entered the fray and made an immediate impact, scoring 22 runs off Rathi in the 12th over. However, Yadav struck back, taking both Patidar and Sharma's wickets, raising hopes for LSG.
Ultimately, RCB's Tim David and Romario Shepherd finished the match with 29 balls to spare.
LSG Struggles with Batting
Earlier, LSG struggled to post a competitive total, being bowled out for 146 runs. Rasikh Salam Dar led a disciplined bowling attack, while Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Josh Hazlewood provided essential support, causing LSG to lose wickets consistently.
After opting to bat first, LSG started steadily but lost their first wicket in the fourth over when Rasikh dismissed Aiden Markram for 12 runs.
The innings faced another setback when captain Rishabh Pant had to leave the field after being hit on the elbow by a Hazlewood delivery.
Krunal Pandya Achieves Milestone
Krunal Pandya contributed significantly by taking crucial wickets, including that of Mitchell Marsh, who scored 40 runs. He also reached a personal milestone of 100 wickets in IPL, becoming the sixth finger spinner to achieve this feat.
As LSG struggled to build momentum, they found themselves at 112/4 by the end of the 15th over. Rasikh continued his impressive performance by taking two more wickets, leading to LSG's collapse at 146 runs.
