Match Overview

Shubman Gill: In the IPL 2026 match last night, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) faced off against Gujarat Titans. Gujarat Titans batted first, scoring 205 runs for the loss of just 3 wickets, thanks to a century from Sai Sudharsan. In response, RCB successfully chased down the target with 7 balls to spare, led by Virat Kohli's impressive 81 runs.

Shubman Gill Reflects on the Loss

Following RCB's victory, Gujarat Titans' captain Shubman Gill expressed his disappointment and discussed the reasons behind the defeat. He noted that while the team performed well until the 15th over, they struggled to score boundaries between the 16th and 19th overs.

“I believe we failed to secure boundaries during the 16th to 19th overs. We couldn't score the runs we aimed for, which were crucial for us. We were in a good position at the end of the powerplay, but we couldn't capitalize on it in the middle overs after the powerplay ended.”

Slow Scoring in Key Overs Contributed to Defeat

After 16 overs, Gujarat's score stood at 170 with two wickets down, with Washington Sundar and Jos Buttler at the crease. However, only four runs were scored in the 17th over bowled by Suyash Sharma, followed by five runs in the 18th over, where Buttler was dismissed. The 19th over yielded just eight runs, and notably, no boundaries were hit in these three overs.

This lack of scoring left Gujarat with only 187 runs. Although Jason Holder managed to hit two sixes and a four in the final over to push the score to 205, it was insufficient to compensate for the earlier overs.

Virat Kohli also commented post-match, stating he expected Gujarat to set a target around 230 runs, but that did not happen, allowing his team to secure an easy victory. Kohli credited his bowlers for their outstanding performance in achieving this win.
