RCB Clinches Thrilling Last-Ball Victory Over MI in IPL Clash
RCB Triumphs in a Nail-Biting Finish
In a gripping encounter on Sunday night in Raipur, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) secured a thrilling two-wicket victory against Mumbai Indians (MI), thanks to a stellar performance from Krunal Pandya and a decisive six from Bhuvneshwar Kumar on the final ball. Despite Corbin Bosch's impressive four-wicket haul, it was Pandya's explosive 73 off 46 balls, featuring four fours and five sixes, that stole the show. This win marks RCB's second last-ball victory over MI, following a similar chase in Chennai in 2021. With this result, RCB ascends to the top of the IPL standings with seven wins from 11 matches, while MI languishes in ninth place with only three victories.
RCB's Chase Unfolds
RCB began their chase of a target set at 167 with Jacob Bethell and Virat Kohli at the crease. However, Deepak Chahar dealt a significant blow by dismissing Kohli for a golden duck in the very first over. Devdutt Padikkal then joined Bethell but fell shortly after for just 12 runs, leaving RCB's captain Rajat Patidar to take the field. Unfortunately, Patidar also fell victim to Bosch, scoring only 8 runs, which brought Krunal Pandya to the crease.
Pandya's Heroics Keep RCB Alive
Pandya and Bethell worked to stabilize the innings, guiding RCB to 74-3 after 10 overs. Bosch struck again, removing Bethell for 27 runs in the 13th over, which brought wicketkeeper Jitesh Sharma to bat. Bosch's remarkable 13th over saw him claim a wicket without conceding any runs, making him the first bowler to bowl a maiden over in the middle overs of IPL 2026. Sharma, looking to break his poor run, hit a massive six off Raj Bawa. Pandya reached his fifty in the 15th over, but Bosch soon dismissed Sharma for 18 runs and then took down Tim David for a golden duck. Despite the setbacks, Pandya kept RCB's hopes alive, hitting two sixes off AM Ghazanfar before being dismissed for 73 runs. Bumrah's exceptional 19th over limited RCB's scoring, but Bhuvneshwar Kumar's crucial six and Rasikh Salam Dar's calm two runs in the final over clinched the victory.
Bhuvneshwar's Bowling Prowess
Earlier in the match, Bhuvneshwar Kumar's outstanding four-wicket haul helped RCB restrict MI to 166/7 at the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Stadium. Bhuvneshwar's figures of 4/23 in 4 overs included three quick wickets, giving MI an early setback. Despite his efforts, MI's Naman Dhir and Tilak Varma managed to put together a respectable total. Bhuvneshwar's early breakthroughs included dismissing MI opener Ryan Rickelton and Rohit Sharma, who had threatened to shift the momentum.
Dhir and Tilak Steady MI's Innings
Naman Dhir and Tilak Varma steadied the innings with an impressive 82-run partnership, lifting MI from a precarious 28/3 to 102/3 in 12 overs. However, RCB's Rasikh Salam Dar broke the partnership by dismissing Dhir for 47 runs. MI's innings faced further challenges as Bhuvneshwar returned to claim Tilak's wicket, reducing MI to 155/6. Josh Hazlewood's economical penultimate over further restricted MI, allowing RCB to limit them to 166/7.
