RCB Achieves Historic Victory in IPL 2025 with Unbeaten Away Record
RCB's Unprecedented Achievement
Stand-in captain Jitesh Sharma delivered an outstanding performance, scoring an unbeaten 85 runs, leading Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) to a remarkable victory that no other team in the Indian Premier League (IPL) has achieved before.
In their final league match of IPL 2025 at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium on Tuesday, RCB secured a thrilling six-wicket win against Lucknow Super Giants. They successfully chased down a target of 228 runs with eight balls remaining, marking their highest successful chase and the third-highest total in IPL history.
This victory allowed RCB to reach an extraordinary milestone, as they became the first team to win all seven away matches in a single season. This achievement is particularly notable in a season that follows the home-and-away format.
While both Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Mumbai Indians (MI) had seven wins in the 2012 season, they each lost one away match.
With this impressive win, RCB finished second on the points table for the first time since 2016, ending the group stage with 19 points. Although they tied with Punjab, their net run rate of +0.30 placed them just behind the team led by Shreyas Iyer.
RCB's victory also marked the second successful chase of over 200 runs at Lucknow's venue, following Sunrisers Hyderabad's successful chase of 206 against the same opponents on May 19.
During RCB's record chase, Lucknow's bowlers struggled, with New Zealand's Will O'Rourke having a particularly tough outing. He took two wickets but gave away 74 runs in his four overs, making it the third-most expensive bowling performance in the tournament's history.
The match was filled with excitement, as Lucknow's captain Rishabh Pant scored a remarkable 118 runs, helping the hosts reach a formidable total of 227/3. In response, Virat Kohli and Phil Salt set a solid foundation during the powerplay, while Jitesh Sharma (85*) and Mayank Agarwal (41*) maintained the momentum, guiding Bengaluru to their highest run chase in IPL history.
Having secured second place in the group standings, Bengaluru is set to face Punjab Kings in Qualifier 1 on Thursday, while Gujarat will compete against Mumbai Indians in the Eliminator on Friday.
