RBI Introduces New Credit Card Rules for User Convenience
Significant Relief for Credit Card Users
A major update has emerged for millions of credit card users, as the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has made crucial changes to its regulations. This new directive offers users additional time and reduced charges. If you miss the payment deadline for your credit card bill, there's no need to panic anymore. Under the revised rules, you will receive an extra three days after the due date to make your payment without incurring any penalties. This adjustment is particularly beneficial for those who occasionally forget their due dates and face hefty fines.
Grace Period of Three Days Introduced
According to the RBI's new guidelines, late fees will not be applied immediately after the due date. Customers will now have a grace period of three days. For instance, if your due date is the 5th, you can make your payment without penalty until the 8th.
Limit Imposed on Late Fees
Another significant change is that late fees will now only be charged on the outstanding amount rather than the total bill. This will alleviate the financial burden on customers, making payments more manageable. However, if payment is not made within the three-day grace period, it will be considered overdue, potentially negatively impacting your credit score. Therefore, timely payments remain essential.
Support for Disaster-Affected Individuals
The RBI has also announced relief measures for individuals affected by natural disasters. Banks will now proactively assist customers without requiring them to submit applications. These new credit card regulations will come into effect on April 1, 2027, while the disaster-related relief measures will be implemented starting July 1, 2026.
