Ravi Shastri, the former head coach of the Indian cricket team, expressed his admiration for Rishabh Pant following an electrifying performance in the first Test against England at Leeds. Shastri noted that Pant approaches the game on his own terms, likening his unique style to a personal 'computer' that only he understands, highlighting the instinctive brilliance that defines his batting.

The 27-year-old wicketkeeper-batter delivered an impressive innings, scoring 134 runs off 178 balls, which included 12 fours and 6 sixes, captivating the audience at Headingley on Day 2. His innings featured a stunning falling paddle shot and a celebratory somersault after reaching his century, showcasing the blend of skill and unpredictability that Pant is known for.

This innings marked Pant's seventh Test century and his second since the serious car accident in late 2022 that nearly jeopardized his career.

Shastri remarked on Sky Sports, "Outrageous. He (Pant) plays the numbers game beautifully, plays the way he wants. He will block for a bit and then shift gears."

His knee was in a bad state, with scars and bruises all over."
