Former Indian cricketer and well-known commentator, Ravi Shastri, expressed his admiration for Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the BRICS Summit. This significant event, themed 'Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability,' is taking place in India on September 12-13.

In a post shared on X, Shastri highlighted a moment where PM Modi was seen planting a sapling alongside Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin at Bharat Mandapam, the summit's venue. He stated, 'Never felt prouder as an Indian. President Putin, President Xi, and our Magnificent Prime Minister Narendra Modi together in Mother India. International diplomacy like never before. Take a Bow, Modi Ji.'

BRICS Summit Wraps Up in New Delhi

The concluding day of the BRICS Summit in New Delhi will feature an open session with participation from BRICS members and partners. Prime Minister Modi is also expected to engage in bilateral discussions with leaders from seven nations on Sunday. His meetings will include leaders from South Africa, Kazakhstan, the Philippines, Egypt, Burundi, Uganda, and Nigeria.

Notably, PM Modi will have a meeting with South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, who has been a vital member of BRICS. President Ramaphosa participated in the BRICS session focused on 'Inclusive Global Governance & Strengthening Multilateralism' on Saturday and visited the 'Bharat Innovates' exposition in New Delhi.

New Delhi Declaration and Membership Expansion

On Saturday, BRICS leaders unanimously endorsed the New Delhi Declaration 2026. PM Modi characterized this outcome as indicative of a BRICS that is 'broader in reach and stronger in purpose.' The current BRICS membership includes 11 nations: Brazil, China, Egypt, Ethiopia, India, Indonesia, Iran, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, and the UAE, along with 10 partner countries: Nigeria, Belarus, Bolivia, Cuba, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Thailand, Uganda, Uzbekistan, and Vietnam.
