A Unique Story of Twin Births

In the film 'Gopi Kishan,' a famous line was delivered by a child: 'I have two fathers.' While that was just a movie, a real-life incident has emerged that mirrors this scenario. A woman engaged in relationships with two men on the same day and later found herself pregnant, ultimately giving birth to twins, each with a different father.

This extraordinary case took place in the city of Mineiros, located in the Goiás state of Portugal. A 19-year-old woman recently gave birth to twins. When the children reached eight months, a DNA test was conducted. Surprisingly, the DNA of one child matched with one father, while the other child's test returned negative.

The woman recalled that she had been with another man on the same day, prompting her to conduct a DNA test with him, which confirmed he was the father of the second child. This means she had relations with two men in one day and gave birth to twins, each resembling one of the fathers, yet their DNA profiles were distinct.

Although the twins have different fathers, their birth certificates can list the same individual. Consequently, the woman's partner is responsible for both children's upbringing, and his name appears on their birth certificates. Medical professionals are astonished by this unusual case.

Dr. Tulio Jorge Franco, who researches atypical pregnancies, states that only 20 such cases have been documented worldwide, where twins have different fathers. This phenomenon is scientifically termed heteroparental superfecundation.

The doctor who delivered the twins explained that this occurs when two eggs from the same mother are fertilized by different men. He also noted that the woman's pregnancy was normal, and both children were born healthy without any health issues. He expressed his surprise at witnessing such a rare case.

Currently, the children are 1 year and 4 months old. This case came to light when the woman allowed the doctor to disclose this information under the condition of anonymity.
