Rajnath Singh Honors Sardar Patel's Legacy on His 150th Birth Anniversary
Rajnath Singh Highlights Patel's Anti-Corruption Stance
On Tuesday, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi for revitalizing the legacy of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel during the celebration of Patel's 150th birth anniversary. Speaking at the event, Singh emphasized the BJP's commitment to combating corruption, referencing the implementation of the 130th Constitutional Amendment, which mandates that ministers must resign if they remain in jail for more than 30 days.
While addressing the gathering, Singh remarked on Patel's strict stance against corruption, stating that any complaints against ministers, regardless of their position, should be thoroughly investigated. If the allegations are found to be true, the minister should resign immediately. He noted that the BJP is the first party in independent India's history to honor Patel's vision in this manner, having decided to pass the 130th Constitutional Amendment Bill in Parliament. This legislation aims to ensure that any officeholder who spends over 30 days in jail due to serious criminal charges must resign from their position.
Rajnath Singh further stated that the celebration of Patel's 150th anniversary is significant, as some political forces wished to erase Patel from history. He praised Prime Minister Modi for playing a crucial role in re-establishing Patel as a shining star in the annals of history. The ongoing Sardar @150 padyatra has covered a total distance of 72 kilometers, promoting Patel's message of national unity and civic responsibility. This march serves as a vibrant tribute to his ideals, inspiring communities to embrace discipline, unity, and dedicated service while strengthening participatory citizenship across the nation.
Meanwhile, the Constitution (130th Amendment) Bill, presented in the Lok Sabha on August 20, proposes a framework for the removal of the Prime Minister, Chief Ministers, and Ministers if they are convicted of serious criminal charges and remain in jail for more than 30 consecutive days.
