Rajnath Singh Highlights Success of Operation Sindoor in Strengthening India's Defense

Defense Minister Rajnath Singh has praised 'Operation Sindoor' as a demonstration of India's advanced military capabilities. He highlighted the operation's success and the government's commitment to modernizing the armed forces and boosting domestic defense production. With ambitious targets set for the coming years, Singh expressed confidence in achieving record levels of defense production and exports. This article delves into the details of the operation and the government's strategic plans for a self-reliant defense sector.
 

Operation Sindoor: A Testament to India's Defense Capabilities

On Saturday, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh emphasized that 'Operation Sindoor' has showcased India's "world-class" defense readiness. He attributed its success to the central government's ongoing efforts to modernize the military and promote domestic production of defense equipment. Speaking at an event in New Delhi, Singh described 'Operation Sindoor' as a demonstration of the Indian Armed Forces' strength and valor, stating that it delivered a decisive response to terrorists and their backers.


Singh remarked that the operation is evidence of India's advanced and superior defense capabilities, which have been enhanced over the past 12 years under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership, prioritizing the ethos of 'Nation First and Army First.'

According to Singh, during this operation, indigenous systems such as the Akash Tier Air Defense System, Akash Missile System, and BrahMos Missile were effectively deployed alongside other modern military equipment. He noted that the successful use of advanced systems like Akash Tier and BrahMos was made possible due to the foundation laid over the last 12 years.


Highlighting the government's efforts to promote self-reliance in the defense sector, Singh mentioned that the armed forces have now included 509 items in their five positive indigenization lists, while five additional lists from defense public sector undertakings contain 5,012 items. He stated that as the country moves steadily towards building a self-reliant and robust defense sector, another 'Positive Indigenization List' will soon be released to further accelerate this vision.

He also revealed that India's annual defense production is set to reach record levels by 2025-26 compared to 2014. Singh stated that defense production has surged from approximately ₹40,000 crores in 2014 to a projected ₹1.78 lakh crores in the financial year 2025-26. The goal is to elevate defense production to ₹2 lakh crores this year and to ₹3 lakh crores by 2029, with an aim to ensure that defense exports reach ₹50,000 crores by 2029. Given the current pace of progress, he expressed confidence in achieving these targets.
