Rajasthan's Initiative for Sustainable Waste Management

Rajasthan is taking significant steps towards sustainable urban development under Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma's leadership. A major project worth over ₹310 crores aims to scientifically dispose of 7.5 million cubic meters of legacy waste across 152 urban bodies. This initiative not only targets the establishment of modern waste processing plants but also aligns with the national 'Zero Dump Site' goal. The project employs bio-mining technology to recycle materials, contributing to resource recovery and environmental cleanliness. Learn more about this ambitious endeavor and its impact on Rajasthan's cities.

Rajasthan's Commitment to Clean Cities

Under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma, the Rajasthan government is actively working towards making its cities cleaner, environmentally friendly, and promoting sustainable development. As part of this initiative, a project worth over ₹310 crores is being implemented for the scientific disposal of approximately 7.5 million cubic meters of legacy waste across 152 urban bodies in the state.

This project is a significant step towards achieving the national goal of 'Zero Dump Site.' It aims not only to dispose of old waste but also to establish modern waste processing plants at these sites, thereby reducing the likelihood of new dumping grounds and enhancing the waste management system, which will contribute to urban development.

Implementation Across 152 Urban Bodies -

So far, under this ambitious project, work orders for the disposal of over 2.4 million cubic meters of legacy waste have been issued in 30 urban bodies, and letters of acceptance for more than 3.5 million cubic meters of work have been granted in 40 urban bodies. Additionally, tenders for the disposal of approximately 1.6 million cubic meters of waste are currently under technical evaluation in 82 urban bodies.

Strengthening the Goals of Swachh Bharat Mission-Urban 2.0 -

The central government has set a national target of 'Zero Dump Site' under the Swachh Bharat Mission-Urban 2.0. To achieve this goal, the Dump Site Remediation Accelerator Program has been launched, which aims to expedite the scientific disposal of legacy waste piles across the country. In Rajasthan, approximately 2.4 million cubic meters of legacy waste remediation has been completed from November 2025 to March 2026.

This process involves bio-mining technology, where old waste is sorted into different categories to extract reusable materials. Soil-like materials are utilized for road construction, while plastics and metals are recycled, and combustible materials are converted into Refuse Derived Fuel (RDF) for use in the cement industry and energy production. This approach not only provides a scientific solution to a long-standing challenge but also enables resource recovery.
