Overview of the Urban Local Body Elections

Jaipur, September 10: The second phase of polling for the Urban Local Body elections in Rajasthan is scheduled for Friday, as the State Election Commission continues with the electoral process under the 'One State, One Election' initiative.

First Phase Results

The initial phase of voting took place on September 9, successfully concluding across 162 Urban Local Bodies, achieving a notable voter turnout of 76.41 percent. The elections encompass a total of 309 Urban Local Bodies in Rajasthan, which includes 10 Municipal Corporations, 47 Municipal Councils, and 252 Municipalities, organized in two distinct phases.

During the first phase, 5,393 wards were contested. Out of 5,752,280 registered voters, 4,395,488 participated, resulting in the aforementioned turnout rate.

This phase included 4 Municipal Corporations, 27 Municipal Councils, and 131 Municipalities.

For the first phase, 7,683 polling booths were set up, with 20,623 candidates vying for election.

The State Election Commission confirmed that the polling process for member posts in all 162 Urban Local Bodies was conducted without any incidents.

Voter Turnout Highlights

The highest voter turnout was recorded in Arnod Nagar Palika of Pratapgarh, reaching an impressive 91.98 percent. Conversely, the lowest turnout occurred in Bhilwara Nagar Nigam, where 63.84 percent of the 296,682 registered voters participated.

This first phase also included elections for 73 newly established Urban Local Bodies, marking their inaugural electoral process. The remaining 89 bodies had previously held general elections.

In the last general elections for these 89 bodies, the turnout was 74.76 percent, indicating that the current turnout of 76.41 percent is an improvement.

Preparations for the Second Phase

With the first phase concluded, focus now shifts to the second and final phase of polling on September 11. The State Election Commission has finalized all necessary arrangements for this upcoming phase across the Urban Local Bodies.

This election process is part of a broader initiative to conduct Urban Local Body polls under the 'One State, One Election' framework.

The Commission has emphasized its commitment to ensuring that the polling is executed in a peaceful, transparent, and orderly manner.

After both phases of polling are completed, the electoral process will advance to the vote counting and subsequent stages as per the established schedule.
