RR's Bowling Attack Shines

In the opening match of the IPL 2026 season at Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati, the Rajasthan Royals (RR) showcased a formidable bowling performance, spearheaded by Nandre Burger, Jofra Archer, and Ravindra Jadeja. Together, they restricted the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) to a mere 127 runs, dismissing them in just 19.4 overs.

Early Collapse for CSK

After winning the toss, RR captain Riyan Parag opted to field first, a decision that paid off immediately as his bowlers dismantled CSK's top order. The innings began poorly for Chennai, losing key players early on. Sanju Samson, making his debut against his former team, fell for just 6 runs, bowled out by a brilliant delivery from Burger. Captain Ruturaj Gaikwad followed suit, also scoring 6 runs, leaving CSK at a precarious 19/2 within three overs. The situation worsened when Ayush Mhatre was dismissed for a golden duck, caught behind off a bouncer from Burger, making it 19/3.

Powerplay Struggles

Matthew Short's innings was short-lived as well, falling to Sandeep Sharma, which left CSK struggling at 38/4 in 5.3 overs. By the end of the Powerplay, CSK found themselves in dire straits at 41/4.

Jadeja's Impact in Middle Overs

The middle overs brought no relief for CSK as Ravindra Jadeja, facing his former team, made an immediate impact. In his first over, he took two crucial wickets, dismissing Sarfaraz Khan (17) LBW and Shivam Dube (6), leaving CSK reeling at 57/6 after 8 overs. Kartik Sharma, a significant investment for CSK at Rs 14.20 crore, attempted to stabilize the innings but fell to Brijesh Sharma after scoring 18 runs off 15 balls.

Final Wickets Fall

CSK's eighth wicket fell when Jofra Archer claimed his second wicket, reducing them to 82/8 in 13 overs. Ravi Bishnoi then joined the action, taking his first wicket and sending Matt Henry back, leaving CSK at 94/9 in 16 overs.

Overton's Late Resistance

Jamie Overton provided some late resistance for CSK, scoring 43 runs off 36 balls before being run out, as CSK was ultimately bowled out for 127 runs in 19.4 overs.
