Jaipur, July 2: The CID (Intelligence) of Rajasthan Police has made a significant breakthrough by apprehending an individual suspected of managing a funding channel for the ISI, Pakistan's intelligence agency, as reported by officials on Thursday.
The arrested individual, Rafiq Chand Shaikh, hails from Harsul in Maharashtra's Aurangabad district and is the son of Chand Miyan Shaikh. He is accused of facilitating the transfer of funds from ISI operatives to individuals believed to be engaged in espionage within India.
This arrest is a crucial step in an ongoing investigation under the Official Secrets Act of 1923.
Previously, two individuals, Jhabra Ram from Jaisalmer and Sumit Kumar, a Multi-Tasking Staff member at the Indian Air Force Station in Dibrugarh, Assam, were detained for allegedly sharing sensitive military information with ISI agents.
During the investigation, CID (Intelligence) officials traced financial transactions and discovered that funds sent by ISI operatives for espionage were funneled through Rafiq Chand Shaikh.
Interrogation of Shaikh revealed that he had been in contact with an ISI handler for approximately four years.
Officials indicated that he opened several bank accounts, both in his name and others', to facilitate the transfer of funds to those suspected of espionage, following instructions received via social media.
After confirming the financial transactions and his involvement in the network, the Rajasthan CID (Intelligence) arrested him on June 30.
Authorities allege that Shaikh acted as a funding agent for the ISI, responsible for channeling money to suspected operatives in India.
The investigation is ongoing, with officials delving deeper into potential connections with other individuals linked to the ISI funding network.
Authorities are also scrutinizing additional financial transactions to uncover the full scope of the network and identify all individuals involved.
Further updates are anticipated.
