Rajasthan Police Orders British Tourists to Leave India Over Controversial Posters
Police Action Against Tourists in Pushkar
Authorities in Rajasthan have mandated two British tourists to exit India after they allegedly displayed posters advocating for Palestine in Pushkar, located in the Ajmer district. This directive was reported by a local news outlet on Tuesday.
Officials from the Foreigners Registration Office in Ajmer confirmed that the notice was issued on Monday, instructing the tourists to depart the country as soon as possible.
A Leave India Notice is a formal requirement from Indian officials that compels foreign nationals to leave within a designated timeframe. Non-compliance may result in detention, deportation, or being barred from re-entry.
The situation was brought to attention on January 21, leading to actions taken under the Immigration and Foreigners Act, which resulted in the revocation of the tourists' visas.
Rajesh Meena, Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime Investigation Department, Ajmer Zone), stated that the individuals, identified as Lewis Gabriel D and Anushi Emma Christine, entered India on a tourist visa in January and were residing in Pushkar.
Meena emphasized that participating in activities that undermine other nations while in India constitutes a breach of visa regulations.
The district police assisted in the removal of the posters shortly after the incident.
Israel's military operations in Gaza commenced in October 2023 following a deadly attack by Hamas that resulted in the deaths of 1,200 individuals in southern Israel, leading to extensive air and ground assaults on Gaza, which have reportedly caused over 70,000 fatalities.
