Rajasthan Police Launches Statewide Helmet Awareness Campaign
New Initiative for Road Safety in Rajasthan
In an effort to enhance road safety and reduce fatalities from two-wheeler accidents, the Rajasthan Police is set to initiate a significant campaign starting today. The 'Statewide Special Helmet Awareness and Enforcement Campaign' will run for 15 days from July 2 to July 16 across the state.
This initiative is being implemented under the guidance of Police Director General Rajiv Kumar Sharma and supervised by the Director General of Police (Traffic), Anil Paliwal. An order issued by Additional Director General of Police (Traffic) Dr. B. L. Meena mandates all police commissioners and district superintendents to enforce the Motor Vehicle Act strictly.
Mission 2030 aims to reduce road accidents and fatalities by 50%—
The state government has set a phased target to decrease the rising number of road accidents and fatalities by 50% by the year 2030, as part of the approved state road safety strategy and action plan.
It has been observed that many two-wheeler riders and their passengers in rural areas often neglect to wear helmets. The lack of helmet usage has led to an increase in severe head injuries and fatalities in road accidents. Therefore, wearing helmets is crucial for both riders and passengers. This special campaign is designed to raise awareness among the public and ensure compliance with the provisions of the Motor Vehicle Act.
"No Travel Without a Helmet"—
During this 15-day campaign, the police will collaborate with the transport department, education department, local self-governments, NGOs, and community representatives.
1. Awareness Programs: Events will be organized in village panchayats, schools, colleges, major markets, intersections, rural haats, and public places through street plays, road safety oath rallies, promotional vehicles, and village meetings.
2. Key Messages: The campaign will promote messages like "No Travel Without a Helmet – Mandatory for Both Riders and Passengers" and "Only ISI Marked Helmets Can Save Lives" through social media and on-ground efforts.
Enforcement Against Speeding, Wrong Parking, and Lane Violations
The campaign will not be limited to helmet enforcement. Police teams will conduct strict enforcement actions daily on highways and expressways focusing on four key areas: actions against riders and passengers without helmets, speeding drivers, illegal parking on national/state highways, and drivers not adhering to lane discipline on national highways (NH 6 lane/expressway).
The Rajasthan Police urges the public to wear helmets themselves, encourage their families and passengers to do the same, and adhere to road safety rules to contribute to building a safer Rajasthan.
