Significant Policy Decisions by Rajasthan Cabinet

On August 7, the Rajasthan Cabinet convened and approved several crucial policy initiatives aimed at enhancing urban governance and agricultural growth. Among these decisions is the implementation of a 'One State, One Election' system for urban local bodies and Panchayati Raj institutions. Additionally, the government has accepted recommendations from the Rajasthan State Other Backward Classes (Political Representation) Commission during the meeting held on Friday.

Under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma, the Cabinet approved the Rajasthan Agricultural and Food Processing Policy-2026 and the Rajasthan Food Park Development Policy-2026, both designed to boost farmers' incomes and strengthen the rural economy. Following the meeting, Deputy Chief Minister Dr. Prem Chand Baidwa, along with Industry and Commerce Minister Statevardhan Rathore and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Jogaram Patel, shared details about the Cabinet's decisions. Patel indicated that the upcoming Panchayati Raj and local body elections will be conducted under the 'One State, One Election' concept.

He emphasized that conducting elections at different times adversely affects the pace of development projects. Furthermore, he mentioned that the recommendations from the Rajasthan State Other Backward Classes (Political Representation) Commission have been received by the state government. With the acceptance of these recommendations in the Cabinet meeting, provisions for reservations for Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, and Other Backward Classes (OBC) in urban and Panchayati Raj laws have been established.

Following the approval of these recommendations, a lottery process will commence for the reservation of seats for these categories. Minister Rathore noted that the Rajasthan Agricultural and Food Processing Policy-2026 has been approved to encourage investment in agriculture and horticulture. He also announced the establishment of a 'Shri Ann Promotion Agency' to promote millets.

The Parliamentary Affairs Minister stated that the Cabinet has approved the issuance of the Wage Code (Rajasthan) Rules, 2026, aimed at protecting labor rights while ensuring the orderly operation of commercial establishments. These rules will transparently define minimum wages and working hours. Additionally, the Cabinet has approved the Rajasthan Industrial Relations Rules, 2026, to simplify and modernize the state's labor framework.

To expand green areas outside forest regions, the Cabinet has sanctioned the implementation of a Tree Outside Forest Policy in the state. This policy will aid in increasing tree cover in barren, fallow lands, and areas surrounding railways and roads, as well as irrigated land regions. The Minister also mentioned that amendments to the Rajasthan Integrated Clean Energy Policy, 2024, have been approved to accelerate renewable energy production in the state.
