Match Abandoned Due to Severe Weather

The Pakistan Super League encounter between Islamabad United and Peshawar Zalmi at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore was called off on Tuesday without any play due to heavy rainfall and strong winds.

Initially set for a toss at 6:30 PM local time, the match faced delays as the rain intensified. The strong winds made it challenging for the ground crew to manage the pitch covers, with some staff members losing their footing while attempting to secure them across the field. The deteriorating weather conditions left the pitch covered and the outfield drenched, making it impossible to proceed with the game.

Officials made the decision to cancel the match just 30 minutes before the deadline for a five-over game. Consequently, both teams received one point each.

Points Distribution Amidst Adverse Weather

As a result of the cancellation, Peshawar Zalmi accumulated three points from two matches, securing the second position in the league standings, ahead of Lahore Qalandars and Multan Sultans. Islamabad United, on the other hand, earned their first point of the season, placing them sixth, just above Rawalpindi Pindiz.

Despite the ground staff's diligent efforts, the relentless rain and gusty winds ultimately dictated the outcome. This incident underscored the difficulties in ensuring playability during extreme weather, particularly when the safety of players and staff is at stake.

Looking ahead, Zalmi is set to compete against Hyderabad Kingsmen on April 8 in Karachi, while United will face Quetta Gladiators on April 4 at the same location.
