Highlighting the struggles faced by laborers amid rising living costs, he criticized the Modi administration for prioritizing industrialists over the working class. His call for justice resonates with workers who are fighting for their rights and livelihoods, emphasizing that their demands are not mere desires but essential for survival.

Support for Workers in Noida

On Tuesday, Rahul Gandhi, the leader of the opposition in the Lok Sabha, expressed his solidarity with factory workers in Noida who were protesting for a wage increase. The Congress MP stated that the events in Noida on Monday represented the final call of the nation’s labor force. The protests escalated as workers demanded higher wages, leading to incidents of violence, arson, and vandalism, prompting the Uttar Pradesh police to intervene and restore order.

Critique of Government Response

In a detailed post on Twitter, Rahul criticized the Modi government for neglecting the workers' demands. He remarked that the chaos witnessed on the streets of Noida was a desperate cry from the laborers, whose pleas have been consistently ignored. He highlighted the plight of a worker earning ₹12,000 a month while facing rent costs between ₹4,000 and ₹7,000. He pointed out that even a meager annual raise of ₹300 is overshadowed by a ₹500 increase in rent, exacerbating the burden of inflation that suffocates their livelihoods and plunges them deeper into debt.

Global Context of Rising Costs

Rahul further noted that the issue extends beyond Noida and India, as fuel prices soar globally due to supply chain disruptions caused by conflicts in the Middle East. He emphasized that while the working class suffers, the burden of global inflation and tariff wars does not fall on the wealthy industrialists, who are allies of the Modi administration.

Labor Rights and Demands

He also raised concerns about the Modi government's hasty implementation of four labor codes, which will extend working hours to 12 from November 2025 without proper dialogue. He questioned the legitimacy of demanding ₹20,000 for workers who toil for long hours just to meet their families' needs, asserting that this is not greed but a fundamental right. Rahul Gandhi affirmed his support for all workers, whom he described as the backbone of the nation, and criticized the government for treating them as a burden.
