Rahul Gandhi Praises Captain Amarinder Singh Amid Political Tensions
Rahul Gandhi's Affection for Captain Amarinder Singh
Chandigarh, August 7 - Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has expressed admiration for Captain Amarinder Singh, a prominent figure in the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The former Chief Minister of Punjab stated that his personal and familial ties with Rahul and his mother, Sonia Gandhi, will always remain intact, although he is politically aligned with the BJP.
Gandhi remarked, “I get along well with him; he’s cool and an expert in military history. Hello, Uncle Amarinder!” This comment was made during a video shared on the social media platform Instagram, where he engaged in a session titled “Ask Me Anything” aimed at connecting with Gen Z.
While sharing the link to his Instagram initiative on 'X', Gandhi encouraged students and Gen Z to reach out with their questions, promising to answer as many as possible.
In response to Gandhi's remarks, Captain Amarinder Singh expressed his appreciation for the compliments. He noted that he has known Rahul and Priyanka Gandhi since they were children, and that their late father, former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi, was a classmate and friend.
Amarinder emphasized that personal relationships often transcend political affiliations, stating that while his ties with Rahul and Sonia Gandhi will endure, he remains committed to the BJP. He recalled that in 1980, he was a Congress MP while his mother, the late Maharani Mohinder Kaur, was a member of an opposing party.
He questioned, “Does this mean I didn’t get along with my own mother?”
Punjab BJP spokesperson Preetpal Singh Baliwal remarked, “Captain is the biggest leader in Punjab.” He added that Gandhi's nostalgia for Captain Amarinder arises amidst significant internal strife within the Congress party's Punjab unit, labeling it as a sinking ship.
