Rahul Gandhi Leads Opposition in Fight for Democracy Amidst Allegations of Electoral Fraud
Opposition Unites for Democratic Restoration
New Delhi: On Tuesday, the opposition coalition known as the INDIA bloc, along with civil society representatives, pledged to collectively advocate for the "restoration of democracy" in India. Rahul Gandhi emphasized that both political and public resistance would persist and ultimately succeed.
Speaking to the media following discussions with members of the INDIA bloc and civil society at his home, the Leader of Opposition (LoP) in the Lok Sabha stated that those responsible for alleged "vote theft" would face justice, specifically naming Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
Gandhi hosted a gathering of opposition leaders, civil society members, and student representatives for tea at his residence.
Notable attendees included Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, Congress Parliamentary Party chairperson Sonia Gandhi, and various opposition figures such as Tejashwi Yadav and Manoj Jha from the RJD, Mahua Maji from the JMM, and others from different parties.
The LoP expressed profound respect for the Supreme Court and the Chief Justice of India, hoping they would fulfill their roles in this critical situation.
"We hold the Supreme Court and the judicial system in high regard. They have a significant role to play, and we trust they will do so," Gandhi remarked.
"Regardless of the actions of any institution, political and public resistance will endure and prevail," he added.
He asserted that it is unacceptable for anyone to undermine India's Constitution without facing consequences, promising action against those involved in "vote theft."
"We are committed to ensuring that those responsible—Mr. Modi, the primary architect, Amit Shah, the executor, Gyanesh Kumar, and others—will be held accountable. They should realize that the net is tightening around them... We assure you that justice will be served," he declared.
Gandhi also expressed gratitude to the public for their participation in a significant protest, which included a march to the Supreme Court. He noted that the demonstration was not merely a political statement but a reflection of the people's will.
"We appreciate their support," he stated.
He reiterated that all protests were unified in the struggle to restore democracy in the nation.
