New Delhi, July 27 - Former Congress President Rahul Gandhi has raised concerns regarding the police's response to peaceful protests by tribal communities affected by the Ken-Betwa project in Madhya Pradesh. He accused the government of suppressing their legitimate dissent through force. In a post on the social media platform X, Gandhi highlighted that the tribal people are engaging in water satyagraha and hunger strikes due to the loss of their land for the project, without receiving adequate compensation or respectful rehabilitation.

Gandhi emphasized that the tribal communities are the 'original owners' of the land, water, and forests, asserting their primary rights over these resources. He stated that their protests stem from the infringement of these rights. The Congress leader pointed out that the only demand from the tribal people is for fair support to sustain their livelihoods.

He further alleged that instead of addressing their concerns, the BJP government is using police force to quell their peaceful demonstrations. Gandhi declared, 'We stand with our tribal brothers and sisters. Justice must be served, and they deserve compensation and rehabilitation.'
