Rahul Gandhi's Strong Critique of MGNREGA Repeal
In a recent statement, Rahul Gandhi, the leader of the opposition in the Lok Sabha and a prominent Congress figure, launched a fierce attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi regarding the decision to repeal the MGNREGA Act. He accused the Prime Minister of prioritizing bureaucrats over the impoverished population.
While addressing the media about the repeal of the MGNREGA Act, Gandhi claimed that Modi is centralizing power and handing it over to bureaucrats, leaving the poor citizens to suffer from hunger. He emphasized that the original purpose of MGNREGA was to ensure economic responsibility and provide minimum wages to unemployed rural citizens, which he believes Modi is undermining.
Gandhi stated that the amendments to the act have effectively stripped away protections for the poor. He asserted that the Prime Minister's intentions are to transfer the nation's economy into the hands of wealthy individuals like Ambani and Adani, while Congress is striving to assist the underprivileged.
Additionally, Rahul Gandhi condemned the removal of Mahatma Gandhi's name from the revised VB-G Ram-Gi Act. He inaugurated the Raebareli Premier League, organized by the Youth Sports Academy at the Rajiv Gandhi Cricket Stadium. Gandhi is currently on a two-day visit to his constituency, Raebareli, to address a public meeting opposing the repeal of the MGNREGA and to meet with senior party leaders.
Later today, Gandhi plans to hold an 'MGNREGA Chaupal' (community meeting) in Unchahar's Rohania. He will also inaugurate projects under the MPLADS (Member of Parliament Local Area Development Scheme) and visit the residence of the municipal corporation president. On the following day, a meeting with senior party leaders at his guest house is scheduled. Ajay Rai, the president of the Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee, announced that a comprehensive program has been prepared in opposition to the new law, with Congress planning to organize 30 Mahapanchayats across Uttar Pradesh. Rai mentioned that both Rahul Gandhi and Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge may participate in some of these gatherings. Earlier this month, the party declared a three-phase nationwide movement titled 'Save MGNREGA' in response to the new VB-G Ram-Gi law passed by the central government.
