Opposition Leader Raises Concerns Over TET Exam Issues

On Tuesday, Rahul Gandhi, the leader of the opposition and Congress MP, expressed his discontent with the Maharashtra government regarding the cancellation of the Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) 2026 following allegations of a paper leak. He highlighted that despite the exam being canceled two weeks ago, no new date has been announced, leaving around six lakh candidates in uncertainty. In a post on social media, he stated that the Maharashtra TET paper was leaked, leading to the exam's cancellation, and now six lakh candidates are left waiting without any updates.

Gandhi pointed out that those responsible for the paper leak are still free, while the system remains unscathed, and it is the honest candidates who are suffering. He accused the authorities of failing to take action against those accountable for the leak, while students preparing for the exam are facing distress due to this disruption. He emphasized that these candidates represent the current and future educators of the nation, holding the future of India in their hands. They have dedicated years to preparation, filled out forms, paid fees, and traveled to distant centers, only to now be left in limbo without any date or answers.

During a conversation with Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Rahul Gandhi presented three key demands, with the primary focus being the immediate announcement of a new schedule for the Maharashtra TET. He urged the state government to declare a new exam date without further delay, to take strict action against those responsible for the paper leak instead of punishing the candidates, and to grant age relaxation to those whose eligibility has been affected by the postponement of the exam.

He stated, "Chief Minister, today I present three points: Timeliness: Announce the new TET date immediately; Accountability: Action should be taken against those responsible for the leak, not the candidates; Future Security: Those whose year has been wasted due to this leak should receive age relaxation." Rahul emphasized that the government must act swiftly to restore the trust of millions of candidates living in uncertainty after the exam's cancellation. He argued that the burden of administrative failure should not fall on those who have diligently prepared for years.
