Opposition Leader's Condemnation

On Friday, Rahul Gandhi, the leader of the opposition in the Lok Sabha, expressed his disapproval of Delhi University. The institution had issued an advisory urging students to refrain from protests at Jantar Mantar. Gandhi accused the university of intimidating students who are exercising their democratic rights. Sharing the university's post on social media platform X, he questioned how they dared to threaten students for utilizing their democratic freedoms, asserting that they would be held accountable when the time comes.

University's Advisory on Protests

Delhi University advised both students and faculty members to avoid participating in illegal assemblies or demonstrations at Jantar Mantar. The university warned that such activities could lead to legal repercussions and negatively impact students' safety, as well as their academic and professional futures. They emphasized the importance of safety, stating that any unlawful gathering or protest at Jantar Mantar, which is strictly regulated under the directives of the Supreme Court, could result in legal action.

Warnings Against Misinformation

The advisory also cautioned about the spread of misleading and false information that could escalate tensions, urging students to remain vigilant. Gandhi's remarks came in the context of ongoing protests regarding the NEET-UG 2026 examination and calls for the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. Earlier on the same day, Gandhi criticized a video message from Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in which he promised strict action against those involved in the paper leak. He demanded the removal of Pradhan, punishment for those allegedly assaulting protesting students, and an apology.

Calls for Parliamentary Discussion

Gandhi stated, "Mr. Modi, our students are demanding the resignation of Dharmendra Pradhan. Do not insult their intelligence with this useless video released at midnight." He further outlined three demands: 1. Remove Pradhan. 2. Punish those who assaulted students. 3. Issue an apology. The opposition is calling for a detailed discussion in Parliament regarding the NEET examination and criticizing the government over alleged irregularities.
