Rahul Gandhi Alleges Electoral Fraud in Haryana Assembly Elections
Allegations of Fake Voter Entries
New Delhi, Nov 5: On Wednesday, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi claimed that there were 25 lakh fraudulent entries in the electoral list of Haryana, asserting that the assembly elections held last year were compromised. He accused the Election Commission (EC) of collaborating with the BJP to secure their victory.
As the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Gandhi expressed his concerns regarding the integrity of the Election Commission and the democratic framework of the nation, stating he possesses '100% proof' to support his claims.
He alleged that the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) and the two other election commissioners conspired with the BJP to ensure their success in Haryana, suggesting they are in league with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Gandhi mentioned an initiative dubbed 'Operation Sarkar Chori,' which he claimed was designed to transform a predicted Congress victory into a loss in Haryana.
He further accused CEC Gyanesh Kumar of misleading the public by asserting that house number zero is allocated to homeless individuals, labeling this explanation as false.
During a press conference at Indira Bhawan, Gandhi referenced the Haryana electoral list, asserting that 25,41,144 entries were fraudulent, including numerous instances of duplicate voters, invalid addresses, and bulk voting.
“Why hasn’t the Election Commission eliminated these duplicates? It’s because doing so would lead to fair elections, which they seem to avoid,” Gandhi remarked.
“All indicators suggested a Congress victory in Haryana. The top five exit polls indicated a sweeping win for Congress. Interestingly, for the first time, the postal votes differed from the final results, with Congress securing 73 seats compared to the BJP's 17,” he added.
Gandhi also claimed that numerous individuals linked to the BJP cast votes in both Uttar Pradesh and Haryana.
During the press conference, he displayed an image of a woman who allegedly appeared on the voter list 22 times across 10 booths in the Rai assembly constituency, which he claimed was evidence of a 'centralized operation.'
He alleged that the image used for these multiple entries was of a woman from Brazil, representing one of the 25 lakh fraudulent records in Haryana, which he argued was indicative of systematic manipulation.
“There were 25,41,144 entries of 'vote chori' in the list. One in eight voters in Haryana is fake, and despite this, Congress lost by a mere 22,779 votes, the margin in eight seats,” Gandhi stated.
“I was astounded. I could hardly believe our findings. I instructed the team to verify multiple times. I want the youth, especially Gen Z, to grasp this clearly — your future is being compromised,” he emphasized.
Gandhi alleged that there was a calculated effort to turn a Congress landslide into a defeat in Haryana. He also shared a video of Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, who, just two days before the counting, claimed that the BJP would win and that “we have a system in place.”
“We suspected that this was not an isolated incident but rather a coordinated effort at both the state and national levels,” Gandhi remarked.
EC Responds
In response to these allegations, sources from the Election Commission dismissed them as unfounded and questioned the Congress party's own vigilance during the electoral process.
“What were the Congress polling agents doing inside polling stations?” a senior official inquired.
“Polling agents are expected to raise objections if a voter has already cast their vote or if there are doubts about their identity,” the official stated.
Sources indicated that during the revision of the electoral roll, Congress Booth Level Agents (BLAs) did not submit claims or objections regarding alleged duplicate, shifted, or deceased voters.
“Why did INC’s BLAs not raise any claims or objections to prevent multiple entries?” ECI sources questioned, noting that the party also did not file any appeals during the revision process.
In September, Gandhi had accused CEC Kumar of shielding those who “undermine democracy,” citing data from the Karnataka Assembly constituency Aland to assert that votes belonging to Congress supporters were being systematically erased ahead of elections.
In August, referencing data from the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, Gandhi claimed that over one lakh votes were “stolen” through manipulation in the Mahadevapura assembly segment in Karnataka.
