Rahul Gandhi Addresses Traders: Movement Could End in 30 Seconds with Knowledge Kumar's Removal
Political Dynamics Amid Festival Season
New Delhi. As the festive season unfolds in Delhi, discussions have intensified regarding the proposed rally of the opposition alliance scheduled for November 1. Senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi addressed local traders, asserting that if Prime Minister Narendra Modi were to remove Knowledge Kumar from his position, the opposition's movement could potentially conclude in just 30 seconds. Gandhi reassured traders through a video shared on social media platform X, emphasizing that Congress is seriously listening to their concerns and stands with their interests.
Support for Delhi's Traders
In his message, Rahul Gandhi highlighted the ongoing support Congress has for Delhi's business community. He stated that the party is attentive to their issues and understands their challenges. The Congress leader accused the government of disrupting daily life in the capital by halting metro services and sealing roads, which has adversely affected people's mobility. He raised concerns about electoral integrity, suggesting that if there are doubts regarding the safeguarding of votes, it could impact not only the political system but also businesses, people's savings, and children's futures.
Opposition Rally and Its Implications
The backdrop of the controversy involves the opposition alliance 'India,' which is set to hold a rally at Ramleela Maidan on November 1. The aim of this event is to protest against allegations of vote theft. The Chamber of Trade and Industry (CTI) previously requested Rahul Gandhi to postpone the rally, citing concerns that such a significant political event could disrupt market activities during the peak shopping season.
Economic Impact of the Rally
CTI President Brijesh Goyal pointed out in a letter that the number of customers in Delhi's markets typically increases before Dhanteras and Diwali. The organization fears that the rally could hinder traffic around Ramleela Maidan, affecting both wholesale and retail businesses. They have urged Congress leaders to consider rescheduling the rally to minimize potential disruptions to trade.
Projected Business During Festivities
Traders estimate that business around Dhanteras could reach approximately ₹25,000 crores, encompassing sectors such as gold and silver, electronics, clothing, utensils, dry fruits, sweets, vehicles, real estate, and gifts. According to the organization, Dhanteras will be celebrated on November 6, Diwali on November 8, and Bhai Dooj on November 10. This period is crucial for traders, marking one of the most significant commercial phases of the year.
Call for Consideration of Traders' Concerns
Given the current business climate, CTI has proposed that the rally scheduled for November 1 be held after November 10 to ensure that customers can access markets during the festive season without hindrance. Traders are concerned that restrictions on roads, traffic changes, and crowding could deter shoppers. Rahul Gandhi reassured traders that Congress is sensitive to their concerns and reiterated the demand for Knowledge Kumar's removal, claiming that such an action would halt the opposition's movement in 30 seconds.
