Rahul Dravid, the former head coach of the Indian cricket team, expressed his heartfelt appreciation after being awarded the Lifetime Achievement honor at the BCCI Naman Awards 2026. He felt privileged to be recognized alongside some of the most legendary figures in Indian cricket history.


Awards Ceremony Highlights

At the prestigious event held in New Delhi, Dravid received the Col. C. K. Nayudu Lifetime Achievement Award alongside former BCCI president Roger Binny. Additionally, Mithali Raj was awarded the BCCI Lifetime Achievement Award for Women.


Celebrating Contributions to Cricket

The BCCI Naman Awards are an annual celebration that honors exceptional performances and significant contributions to cricket at all levels, recognizing individuals who have played a vital role in the sport's development in India.


'Humbled and Grateful'

Dravid remarked that receiving this award was particularly meaningful, as many iconic players who inspired him throughout his career have also been recipients. He stated, "I am very grateful to receive this award. The previous recipients are some of the greatest legends of the game in our country, and they have been great inspirations to me as a player and coach."


He further expressed that this recognition reflects his extensive journey in cricket, which began in his youth playing age-group matches.


Continuing the Legacy

Dravid emphasized the importance of continuity in Indian cricket, viewing his role as one of carrying forward the legacy established by earlier generations. He said, "I have always seen my role as just carrying a torch from an earlier generation, whether as a player or a coach."


He praised the current crop of Indian cricketers and administrators for their efforts in advancing the game and building upon the legacy.


A Distinguished Career

Dravid's contributions to Indian cricket as both a legendary batsman and a coach are noteworthy. He amassed over 24,000 runs during his international career, playing a crucial role in numerous historic victories.


Post-retirement, he significantly influenced the future of Indian cricket through his work at the National Cricket Academy (NCA), where he enhanced player development and led the U-19 team to victory in the 2018 ICC U-19 World Cup. As head coach of the Indian men's team, he also guided India to triumph in the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024.
