Rahmanullah Gurbaz's Heartwarming Gesture in Dharamshala Goes Viral
A Memorable Encounter in Dharamshala
On June 14, Afghanistan's wicketkeeper-batter Rahmanullah Gurbaz encountered a differently-abled individual managing a small stall in Dharamshala, Himachal Pradesh. Gurbaz is currently part of Afghanistan's ODI team competing against India.
The first match of the series was held at the HPCA Stadium in Dharamshala, where India, led by Shubman Gill, triumphed over Afghanistan by seven wickets in a rain-affected game. The match was shortened to 25 overs per side due to a delay of over four hours caused by continuous rain.
As both teams traveled to Lucknow for the second ODI, Gurbaz's touching interaction with the street vendor in Dharamshala captured the hearts of many and quickly became a viral sensation.
Gurbaz's Compassionate Act
Known for his kind-hearted nature, Rahmanullah Gurbaz took a moment to connect with a local vendor who is differently-abled and operates his business on the streets of Dharamshala, a town with a population of around 53,500.
In a video shared on his Instagram, Gurbaz approached the vendor during the evening, engaging him in conversation as if they were old friends. This interaction highlighted the essence of sportsmanship and humanity beyond the cricket field.
Gurbaz expressed genuine concern by asking the vendor about his well-being and whether he was able to earn enough to support his family. Before departing, he generously offered money and half-roasted corn to the vendor.
A History of Kindness
This isn't the first instance of Gurbaz's generosity during his visits to India. During the 2023 ODI World Cup, he was seen discreetly giving cash to homeless individuals in Ahmedabad ahead of the Diwali festival.
In IPL 2024, he made headlines for a light-hearted prank involving an auto-rickshaw driver in Bengaluru, where the driver, recognizing him, refused to take fare and instead offered him money to ensure his safe return to the hotel.
Social Media Celebrates Gurbaz's Kindness
Gurbaz's heartfelt interaction with the street vendor in Dharamshala sparked widespread admiration on social media platforms, particularly X (formerly Twitter). Fans and cricket lovers praised his humility and kindness.
Many users took to their accounts to commend Gurbaz for his compassionate gesture, referring to him as 'a gem of a person' and a 'pure soul.' His previous acts of kindness were also highlighted, emphasizing that humanity knows no boundaries.
Numerous comments celebrated his consistent kindness during public interactions, with many noting that Gurbaz often goes out of his way to assist those in need.
Gurbaz's Performance in the ODI Series
In the ongoing ODI series against India, Rahmanullah Gurbaz scored a remarkable century, hitting 102 runs off 51 balls, which included eight sixes and as many fours, achieving a strike rate of 200. Unfortunately, his efforts were in vain as Afghanistan fell short in a high-scoring match against India.
