Raghav Chadha and Six AAP MPs Join BJP in Major Political Shift

In a significant political move, Raghav Chadha and six other AAP MPs have announced their departure from the Aam Aadmi Party to join the Bharatiya Janata Party. Chadha expressed his disillusionment with AAP, claiming it has strayed from its core values and is no longer serving the national interest. Political Realignment in the Rajya Sabha

On Friday, April 24, 2026, Raghav Chadha, a member of the Rajya Sabha, along with six other MPs from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), announced their departure from the party to join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). During a press conference alongside Sandeep Pathak and Ashok Mittal, Chadha stated that they have decided to merge with the BJP, utilizing provisions of the Indian Constitution, as two-thirds of AAP's Rajya Sabha members.

Raghav Chadha, Ashok Kumar Mittal, and Sandeep Pathak have been Rajya Sabha members since 2022. Chadha expressed his discontent, stating that the Aam Aadmi Party, which he has dedicated his efforts to for 15 years, has strayed from its principles and values. He criticized the party for prioritizing personal gain over national interest, saying, 'I feel I am the right person in the wrong party.' He declared his separation from AAP and his commitment to the public.

Chadha further elaborated that they, as two-thirds of the AAP's Rajya Sabha members, would be utilizing constitutional provisions to merge with the BJP. He noted that there are ten AAP MPs in the Rajya Sabha, and more than two-thirds are aligned with this decision. They have submitted signed documents to the Rajya Sabha Chairman, with several members present at the announcement.
