PV Sindhu's Ordeal at Dubai Airport

Indian badminton star PV Sindhu is currently stuck at Dubai International Airport due to the closure of airspace caused by escalating tensions and missile strikes involving Iran, Israel, and the USA. She was en route to Birmingham for the All England Open Badminton Championship, which starts on March 3, but her journey from Bengaluru via Dubai has been halted.

On Sunday, Sindhu shared a video on social media detailing her frightening experience. In the video, she mentioned:

  • The last few hours have been extremely stressful and terrifying.

  • She heard sounds of interceptions (missile defenses) from above.

  • A powerful explosion occurred very close to her accommodation a few hours later.

  • Her coach, Irwansyah Adi Pratama, was just 100 meters away from the explosion site, where smoke and debris spread. He had to quickly move to a safer location.

Sindhu expressed, "This experience is truly frightening. The situation is becoming more alarming by the minute. The sounds of interceptions are still echoing." She also mentioned that she and her team have now reached a safe location and are waiting for flights to resume.

She praised the Dubai airport authorities, Emirates Airlines, and the Indian embassy for their assistance. While they are currently safe, the situation remains unstable due to retaliatory missile strikes from Iran, which have affected areas in Dubai, including the Al Nahda industrial zone.
