In an exciting day at the Australian Badminton Open 2026 held in Sydney, two-time Olympic medalist PV Sindhu and rising star Tanvi Sharma both secured their spots in the women's singles quarter-finals, defeating fellow Indian competitors in distinct manners.
Ranked 10th in the world, PV Sindhu triumphed over Isharani Baruah with scores of 22-20 and 21-12, completing the match in 42 minutes. The third seed faced a tough challenge in the first game, which she narrowly won in a tie-break, before dominating the second game to advance to the last eight, as reported by Olympics.com.
Sindhu's next opponent will be Chen Su-yu from Chinese Taipei, as she aims for her second semi-final appearance this season, following her strong performance at the Malaysia Open earlier this year.
On the other hand, 17-year-old Tanvi Sharma showcased her talent with a decisive victory over Malvika Bansod, winning 21-13 and 21-15 in another all-Indian match. This victory marks her second quarter-final appearance this season, highlighting her rising profile in the international badminton scene.
Men's Doubles and Mixed Doubles Results
In men's doubles, MR Arjun and Hariharan Amsakarunan kept India's hopes alive by defeating New Zealand's duo, Michael Owen and Dylan Soedjasa, with a score of 21-17, 21-7, advancing them to the next round of the BWF Super 500 tournament.
However, the mixed doubles team of Dhruv Rawat and Manisha Keer faced a tough battle, ultimately losing 21-19, 21-18 to Japan's Akira Koga and Natsu Saito.
