After making history as the first Indian to clinch the Japan Open Super 750 title, badminton champion PV Sindhu attended an organ donation awareness event in Visakhapatnam on Sunday. This initiative, organized by the Andhra Pradesh government and the Jeevandan Trust, aims to raise awareness about organ donation, which Sindhu described as a life-saving gift that brings hope to many families.

Importance of Organ Donation

During her speech, the two-time Olympic medalist emphasized the critical need for awareness surrounding organ donation. She acknowledged the tough choices families face when deciding to donate organs, stating, "I am delighted to be here on Organ Donation Day. Raising awareness about organ donation is crucial, and I hope initiatives like this continue. I commend the medical professionals for their efforts in saving lives. Organ donation is a remarkable gift, and while it is a challenging decision for families, it provides others with a second chance at life. Many can lead fulfilling lives thanks to these selfless acts."

Minister Acknowledges Sindhu's Contribution

Health Minister of Andhra Pradesh, Satya Kumar Yadav, expressed gratitude to Sindhu for her involvement in the campaign, noting that her participation would motivate more individuals to support organ donation. He stated, "The Andhra Pradesh government, along with the Jeevandan Trust, has organized this program to promote organ donation. I extend my heartfelt thanks to PV Sindhu for joining us in raising public awareness about this noble cause. We aim to encourage families of brain-dead patients to consider organ donation, thereby giving the gift of life to others."

Sindhu's Recent Achievements

Sindhu's involvement in the awareness campaign follows her recent victory at the Japan Open Super 750, where she defeated Akane Yamaguchi with scores of 21-17, 21-17. This win marked a significant comeback for the former world champion after a serious foot injury and ended a 595-day wait for a major title since her Syed Modi International win in late 2024.

Earlier this year, she also became the first Indian shuttler to achieve 500 career singles victories, adding to her impressive accolades, which include two Olympic medals, the 2019 World Championship title, five World Championship medals, a gold medal at the 2022 Commonwealth Games, and a historic Badminton Asia Team Championships title with India in 2024.
