Gaurav Yadav, the Director General of Police, stated that the recovery of 64.62 kilograms of heroin marks a significant success for the Punjab government's anti-drug campaign. The operation involved the Counter-Intelligence branch of the Punjab Police and the State Special Operations Cell in Amritsar. The arrested individuals have been identified as Sarwan Singh, also known as Gujjar, and Shamsher Singh, known as Shera, both residents of Amritsar.

Yadav further revealed that initial investigations indicated the suspects have connections with their handlers based in Portugal and drug traffickers residing in Pakistan. An FIR has been lodged at the SSOC police station, and the investigation is ongoing.
