Punjab Kings Prepare for IPL 2026

As the Punjab Kings gear up for their IPL 2026 season, batter Shashank Singh emphasized the fearless attitude of his teammates. He noted that the less they overthink, the better their performance tends to be. The team will kick off their campaign against the 2022 champions, Gujarat Titans, on March 31 in New Chandigarh. The squad boasts a lineup of promising young talents, including the opening duo of Prabhsimran Singh and Priyansh Arya, along with Nehal Wadhera, Harnoor Singh, Suryansh Shedge, and two exciting Australian players, Cooper Connolly and Mitchell Owen.

Young Players Exhibit Fearlessness

In a discussion on the 'JioStar Press Room', Shashank, who has excelled as a finisher for PBKS in recent seasons, praised the confidence and fearlessness of the younger players. He mentioned that instead of fixating on past mistakes or dot balls, they focus on the next delivery. He acknowledged that while players like Priyansh and Suryansh possess exceptional talent, they still require a bit more maturity. Shashank stated, "The best thing about the youngsters is their fearless nature. Players from Punjab, such as Nehal Wadhera and Suryansh Shedge, do not overthink. I have noticed that we sometimes overanalyze, but these players just concentrate on the next ball. Confidence is crucial in the IPL, and that is their greatest asset."

Team Motivation and Goals

Shashank, who scored 350 runs last season with an impressive average of 50.00 and a strike rate exceeding 153, expressed that the team is highly motivated to improve upon last year's runner-up finish. He remarked, "Everyone is very motivated and pumped up. Teams will have strategies prepared against us, given our journey to the finals in the IPL. However, I believe we have an advantage as everyone is training hard and is very motivated. The atmosphere is fantastic, and we hope to have an even better season this year."

Focus on Emerging Stars

Shashank also discussed the spotlight on breakout players like Vaibhav Suryavanshi and Priyansh Arya following their impressive performances in the 2025 season. He acknowledged that expectations would be high, and teams would be ready for these young talents. He stated, "Suryavanshi is a star in the making, but there are specific technical aspects we will aim to exploit. The same applies to Priyansh. The second season is crucial for them, as managing expectations will be key. We have seen many players excel one season only to struggle the next. I believe Priyansh knows what he wants from his cricketing career and will perform well this year."

Last Season's Achievements

Last year, Priyansh emerged as the third-highest run-scorer for PBKS, accumulating 475 runs at an average of 27.94 and a strike rate of over 179, including a century and two fifties. Meanwhile, Rajasthan Royals discovered a gem in Suryavanshi, who recently turned 15. He began his season with a six on his first ball and finished with 252 runs in seven innings, averaging 36.00 and boasting a strike rate of over 206, including a century and a fifty. His century against the Gujarat Titans made him the youngest T20 centurion and the fastest Indian IPL centurion.
