Farmers' Protest in Punjab
The Farmers' Labor Front (India), Punjab chapter, is gearing up for a symbolic rail blockade on December 5, 2025, from 1 PM to 3 PM across 26 locations in 19 districts. This demonstration aims to demand the withdrawal of the Electricity Amendment Bill 2025 draft, the removal of prepaid meters, the restoration of old meters, and to oppose the forced sale of public properties by the Bhagwant Mann government, along with addressing other issues.
The rail blockade will affect various locations in 19 districts, including: Amritsar, with blockades at Devi Das Pura and Majitha stations on the Delhi-Amritsar main railway line; Gurudaspur, with blockades at Batala, Gurudaspur, and Dera Baba Nanak railway stations on the Amritsar-Jammu and Kashmir railway line; Pathankot at the Paramanand crossing; and Tarn Taran at Tarn Taran railway station.
Other districts that will be impacted by the protest include: Ferozepur, Basti Tankanwale, Mallanwala, and Talwandi Bhai; Kapurthala, near Dadhwindi (Sultanpur Lodhi); Jalandhar, including Jalandhar Cantt; Hoshiarpur, at Tanda (Jammu and Kashmir and Jalandhar railway route) and Bhunga railway station; Patiala, at Shambhu and Bara (Nabha); Sangrur, at Sunam Shaheed Udham Singh Wala; Fazilka, at Fazilka railway station; Moga, at Moga railway station; Bathinda, at Rampura railway station; Muktsar, at Malout and Muktsar; Malerkotla, at Ahmadgarh; Mansa, at Mansa railway station; Ludhiana, at Sahnewal railway station; and Faridkot, at Faridkot railway station and Rupnagar, at Rupnagar railway station.
Due to the protest, these locations will experience disruptions, affecting rail services. On December 5, the demand to cancel the draft of the Electricity Amendment Bill 2025 will lead to a two-hour disruption (from 1 PM to 3 PM), causing inconvenience to travelers, who are advised to plan their journeys accordingly.
