Amarinder Singh Raja Warring Stays Firm Amid Internal Strife
In light of escalating internal conflicts within the Punjab Congress, Amarinder Singh Raja Warring, the president of the state unit, firmly rejected any notion of resigning from his position on Monday. He emphasized that even if the party leadership decides to replace him, he will continue to work for the organization. During the 'Har Booth, Congress Majboot' event in Bathinda, Warring addressed reporters in the presence of AICC General Secretary Bhupesh Baghel, stating, 'I am not resigning.'
Warring further asserted that he would remain committed to strengthening the party, regardless of any changes made by the party high command. His remarks come at a time when supporters of former Chief Minister and Jalandhar MP Charanjit Singh Channi have been vocally backing him during Congress events, highlighting the factional tensions within the state unit.
He noted that he has dedicated himself to the party over the past four years, referencing the Congress's successful performance in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, where the party secured seven out of thirteen seats in Punjab. New signs of discord emerged during Channi's visit to the inauguration ceremony of newly elected Municipal Council President Ashok Sachdeva in Ferozepur. Although many senior Congress leaders attended the event organized by former MLA Parminder Singh Pinky, posters at the venue conspicuously lacked images of Warring or opposition leader Pratap Singh Bajwa.
Following the decision to retain Warring as Punjab Congress chief and appoint Channi as the chairperson of the party's campaign committee, discontent within the Congress has been on the rise. Prior to a party event in Muktsar, posters demanding Baghel's removal and urging Rahul Gandhi to listen to the voices of Punjabis appeared, calling for Channi's return and the formation of a Congress government. Baghel dismissed these posters as the work of rival parties, asserting that AAP and BJP are troubled by this and that it reflects their fear.
